The Total Percussion Intensive
The Total Percussion Intensive (TPI), modeled after Joe McCarthy’s BASIC Training® Bootcamp for Serious Drummers®, is a program designed on the age-old philosophy that mastery of the fundamentals is essential to achieve total control in music. TPI journeys into the core areas of percussion performance, packed into a 2-day presentation. This intensive is a hands-on event, working side-by-side with world-class percussionists as they present vital and relevant topics to achieving success in the world of percussion. Designed for high school, collegiate, and professional-level percussionists, TPI also welcomes and encourages educators of all teaching levels to participate. Stylistic Coordination
Presented by Vic Firth, STYLISTIC COORDINATION is a musical approach to developing independence with Clavé Based Grooves. In this video lesson series, Grammy® Award-winning drummer and educator Joe McCarthy will provide you with a series of exercises to develop groove, coordination, consistency, balance, and concentration. Based on a series of rhythmic permutations applied along with duple and triple based Afro-Cuban grooves, Joe will challenge your mind and your body to develop the independence necessary to open up your groove and soloistic interpretation!
Big Band Play Along Series
The Afro-Cuban Big Band Play-Along DVD gives the drummer/percussionist an opportunity to play contemporary Afro-Cuban music in a big band setting. Playing tunes from the Latin Grammy-winning group Afro-Bop Alliance, drummer Joe McCarthy focuses on three of the predominant groove categories of mainstream Afro-Cuban music: mambo, cha-cha-cha and 6/8 Afro-Cuban. State-of-the-art camera work gives an in-depth look at Joe’s multi-level approach to playing these exciting rhythms, while his focused, straight-ahead concepts take the mystery out of applying these grooves to the music of today. The DVD features play-along tracks (minus the drums), an E-book containing the complete charts and examples demonstrated on the DVD, and bonus tracks of additional tunes from Afro-Bop Alliance.

Introducing the Play-Along Mini Series featuring the Afro Cuban Big Band!
This series was designed to give the drummer an opportunity to study and perform world-class Afro-Cuban big band music including a video performance with tutorial, PDF of the chart and play along minus drums. Take advantage of this unique experience to explore challenging and rewarding music with detailed instruction. Our first chart in this series is “Along Came Betty” from Una Más, recorded and performed by Joe McCarthy and the Afro Bop Alliance Big Band.
